With the VOXEL-MAN My Cases application, you can import your own CT or CBCT data into the simulator, and create your own training cases. So far, this has been limited to bone models.
With its new functions available, VOXEL-MAN My Cases now also allows to identify and label structures at risk such as ossicles, blood vessels, or nerves. It follows the interactive segmentation paradigm, where simple, but fast operations are applied under user control. The following operations are available:
- intensity thresholding (global or limited to a 3D region of interest)
- 3D morphological operations such as erosion and dilation
- 3D buffers and logical operations such as AND, OR, NOT
- 2D painting and 3D sculpting
In general, segmentation is easier and faster and results are better the more contrast is available between neighboring structures. However, it is also possible to define object borders with little or no visible contrast. This may be required e.g. between brain and sigmoid sinus, or nerves and fat. For a newly defined 3D region, a matching description can be selected from a list of anatomical terms. The new model will thus appear in your simulator with the same look and feel as the predefined cases, such as an alarm if a structure at risk is injured.
With the interactive segmentation and the authoring functions of the simulator, you can create your own training cases with structures at risk, tasks, master preparations, and automatic skills assessment.
The interactive segmentation is part of the upcoming VOXEL-MAN ENT 2016 software update.
